1964 - St-Raphaël Gitane Campagnolo

Description:
Last season for the St-Raphaël brand in the professional peloton after 10 seasons (1954-1964) of reign, just like its leader Jacques Anquetil.

In 1964, Gitane and Campagnolo joined forces as partners to create perhaps the most beautiful St-Raphaël jersey in history. It was also in 1964 that Jacques Anquetil won his fifth and last Tour de France, culminating in a neck-and-neck battle with runner-up Raymond Poulidor on the famous Puy de Dôme climb.

Saint-Raphaël was a great and beautiful decade of cycling (1954-1964). By playing with his first name, Raphaël Géminiani comes up with an association with St-Raphaël aperitifs and by a clever subterfuge of sponsoring on his shirts!

From 1954 to 1964, the jersey evolved over the years, sometimes even during the course of the year depending on the riders and the competitions. During this period, many champions rode in this team: Anquetil, Darrigade, Stablinski, Koblet, Altig, etc.

The St-Raphaël team spent 10 years in the professional pelotons from 1954 to 1964. The St-Raphaël Quinquina trademark was first registered in 1890. The aperitif was made in Lyon until 1897, when Pierre Juppet contributed the brand and its products to St-Raphaël Quinquina, a company set up in Paris. Charles Loupot, who worked for the brand from 1937 to 1960, is responsible for the distinctive design of the two red and white servers on a black background and the script lettering that is so original to St-Raphaël.

Color: The emblematic red, white, black and sky blue jersey had its heyday with Jacques Anquetil.
