Hugo Koblet was a former professional road racing cyclist active between 1947 and 1958 from Switzerland born in 1925, and died on November 6, 1964.
Hugo Koblet was a Swiss racing cyclist and the first non-Italian to win the Giro d'Italia in 1950. He won the Tour de France the following year. In 1951 he defeated Fausto Coppi to win the Grand Prix des Nations, an individual time trial with the status of unofficial world championship. He won the Swiss pursuit championship every year from 1947 to 1954. In 1947 he finished third and in 1951 and 1954 second in the world championship.
He also distinguished himself in six-day races, winning those in Chicago and New York with Walter Diggelmann and those in Hanover, Frankfurt, Dortmund and Brussels with Armin von Büren. Together with Armin von Büren, he forms a formidable duo in American-style races.
