1986 - Tour de France Podium Pennant

1986 saw the first victory by an American in the Tour de France, won by Greg Lemond ahead of team-mate Bernard Hinault. At the end of stage 18 of the 1986 Tour de France, Bernard Hinault and Greg LeMond caused a sensation by winning hand in hand at the top of Alpe d'Huez. Behind the triumphant, idyllic image lay another truth! ...
When Bernard Hinault won the 1985 Tour, he repeated publicly and several times in front of the cameras his promise to help LeMond win the Tour the following year. It didn't turn out as planned, even though Greg Lemond did manage to win on the pedals, which was Hinault's wish!
